Launching the paid Telegram messaging app in 2021

The encrypted messaging app Telegram will launch paid services starting in 2021, coinciding with the company’s need to make what it described as “at least several hundred million dollars annually”.

Company founder Pavel Durov said that Telegram will start generating revenue from next year, will roll out many services and features and welcome billions of new users. Durov added that he did not plan to sell the company, and therefore needed to look for other ways to obtain funding.

Telegram is a popular social networking platform in several countries, specifically in the former Soviet Union and Iran, used for private communication and sharing of information and news, and has attracted about 500 million active users since its launch in 2013, Durov said that since that time he has been paying the company’s expenses from his savings Private, and that with its current growth rate, it is on its way to reach billions of users and thus requires adequate funding for the size of its business, adding that the free features in the application will remain free.
